Lost Coast LEDs will be holding Humboldt County’s first ever Glow Off. Festivities will take place at our new installation shop, located at 101 2nd St., in Eureka, California. Festivities will begin at 4:30 pm with an official ribbon cutting ceremony, followed by introducing some of Humboldt County’s brightest vehicles. Food and entertainment will be available during the prelude to the final judging. Categories will include the brightest vehicle, the most creative use of LEDs, the cleanliness of the installation, and last, but certainly not least, the audience favorite. Prizes will be awarded for first place finishers.
There are no entry fees for this event, either for the participants or the audience.
In a Glow Off, judges evaluate various aspects of the illuminated vehicles to determine winners. Here are the common categories they consider:
- Lighting Creativity and Design:
- Judges assess the uniqueness and creativity of the underglow lighting setup. They look for innovative designs, patterns, and color combinations that make a vehicle stand out.
- Color Coordination and Aesthetics:
- How well the underglow lights complement the overall aesthetics of the vehicle matters. Harmonious color schemes and tasteful combinations receive higher scores.
- Brightness and Intensity:
- Judges evaluate the brightness and intensity of the lights. A balanced glow that isn’t too overpowering but still catches attention is desirable.
- Coverage and Placement:
- The extent of coverage matters. Judges consider whether the underglow lights illuminate the entire undercarriage evenly or if there are dead spots.
- Proper placement of lights, avoiding clutter or excessive wiring, is also crucial.
- Synchronization and Patterns:
- Vehicles with synchronized lighting patterns (such as pulsing, fading, or changing colors) often score well. Judges appreciate dynamic displays.
- Clean Installation and Wiring:
- Neat and concealed wiring, professional installation, and secure mounting contribute to a higher score. Sloppy installations may lead to deductions.
- Overall Impact and Wow Factor:
- Judges step back and assess the overall impact of the underglow. Does it create a captivating visual spectacle? Does it evoke a “wow” reaction?
